Storm Ciaran is passing through England and Wales today. It brings storm force winds and heavy periods of rain or blustery showers to most areas. Gusts in excess of 80mph could affect southern coasts this morning, with gusts of 70mph in Wales this afternoon and 60mph in the Midlands. 50 to 60mph gusts are likely in eastern Scotland and northeast England. Drier for western Scotland and Ireland. Highs at 7 to 11C.

Thursday Night
Gales and heavy bursts of rain through the Midlands, parts of northern England, East Anglia and southeast England this evening. Gusts could be in excess of 60mph. Further rain in eastern Scotland which could cause flooding at times. Showers in the west, a few of them heavy. Lows at 4 to 8C.
 

Friday
Rain in eastern Scotland on Friday. This is going to be heavy at times and could lead to local flooding. Windy too across many northern and eastern areas. More showers for western Wales and the northern coasts of Cornwall and Devon. Brighter across inland and eastern areas of England as well as much of Ireland away from northern and western coasts and hills. This afternoon sees more rain in northeast Scotland with some showers in eastern England. Showers too for northern and western Wales as well as the north coasts of Cornwall and Devon. Drier for other areas with sunny spells. Highs at 8C in northern Scotland and 12C in southern England.

Saturday
Pressure is low across the British Isles on Saturday. A further area of low pressure crosses southern parts of England bringing rain and a cold day through Wales, central, southern and eastern England. The rain could be heavy at times and may lead to further local flooding. Turning drier and brighter from the west in the afternoon. Northern England, Scotland and most of Ireland should be drier and brighter with sunny spells but also a scattering of showers, perhaps turning more persistent in eastern Scotland later. Highs at just 8C in the Midlands, 11C in southern England, 9C in northern Scotland.
