Unsettled weather conditions

Thursday
A developing low pressure system arrives on Thursday from the south bringing a period of heavier rain across south Wales and southern England along with strong winds and coastal gales. It will be generally quite murky on the exposed areas and over the hills. However this will move eastwards through the day with some showers following. Elsewhere a mostly dry start to the day, with some brightness, the best of this across the Grampians, however soon an organized band of showers will arrive over Northern Ireland and will push eastwards through the day. Windy in south where it will feel generally cold, but just fresh winds elsewhere. Tops of 8C in south, but 5C in north.

Thursday Night
Some showers remaining across the country, but with the drier conditions across the Aberdeenshire, Perthshire and Moray. Long clear spells across these areas will lead to temperatures dropping below zero with a risk of patchy fog and frost developing. Minimum temperatures at -1 C in north but 4C in south.

Friday
Scotland will start with patchy fog and frost, otherwise the morning will see generally bright conditions across the country with a few showers, but also some bright or sunny spells across East Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast. As a low pressure system will edge from the west in the afternoon, most areas will see thickening cloud with rain arriving across Northern Ireland and southwest England and Wales in the evening, with the tendency to move further east later. Winds will start light everywhere, but as the day progresses will strengthen up from the west with some gales developing later in the evening in exposure. Maximum temperature of 5C in north, but 10C in south.

Saturday
A cloudy and windy morning for most with outbreaks of heavier rain, and snow on Scottish mountain tops. Through the day most rain will clear with showers following, these becoming squally across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, wintry again on mountain tops. Gales across the exposed and coastal areas, with severe gales possible over Western Isles. A milder day with tops of 14C in south, but still cooler in north with tops of 7C.
