Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 7th December 2023 Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling
Damp and windy, heavier rain in the west edging slowly east
A cloudy and windy morning over most of the country. Periods of rain across many central and eastern areas. Low cloud shrouding hills and coasts in the west with plenty of drizzle here. More rain returning to southwest Ireland and southwest England.
This afternoon remains windy. Damp for many with heavier and more persistent rain over much of western Scotland, Wales, western England and eastern Ireland. Gales afecting the north and west too. Patchier rain in East Anglia and southeast England. Tending to be drier and brighter in western Ireland with sunny spells developing.
Tonight sees the heavier rain passing eastwards, clearing eastern coasts by late evening although lingering until morning in the far north of Scotland. Heavy showers over western coasts and hills. Drier for other areas with some clearer skies. A mild night too. Breezy in the west but the winds easing elsewhere.
