Another cold day for many, milder to the south, rain and sleet

An area of rain, sleet and snow could afect central and northern parts of Wales, the Midlands and parts of northern England this morning. Rain in much of central and southern England with mist and hills fog too. Cold with a few showers in eastern Scotland. Brighter but cold in western Scotland and Ireland, some sunny spells here.

By this afternoon rain will be in many central and eastern areas, some snow continuing to fall over the hills. Becoming brighter in the west of Wales and southwest England with some sunny spells. Further sunny spells in western Scotland and in much of Ireland.

rain tonight over much of northeast and eastern England. Some showery rain fr the north of Wales. Dry for central and southern England. A few showers in eastern Scotland, drier though for western Scotland and the rest of Ireland.
