A cloudy morning for almost all parts of the country to kick off the pre-Christmas week. A few brighter spots in the far southeast and to the lee of high ground. Some patchy drizzle and rain over western coasts and hills, most in western Scotland and southwest Scotland. Drier and breezy in the east and feeling mild.

More persistent rain this afternoon with heavier rai in western and southern Wales and well as southwest England and perhaps the far south of Ireland. Patchy rain in central and eastern areas of England. Brighter for Scotland and the far north of Ireland. Overnight it stays wet in Wales and southern England with rain spilling through the Midlands and East Anglia too. Drier in northern England and much of Ireland. Brighter for Scotland, best in the east. Some showers north and west and feeling cooler in Ireland.
