Rain in England and Wales this morning, fading to leave a fair afternoon

Rain this morning across northern and eastern England. Showers in western Wales and the far southwest of England. Fine for Scotland with lots of sunshine here and cold too, although some wintry showers in the far east. Ireland starts the day fine with more sunshine throughout.

By this afternoon showers will have retreated to eastern coasts, some of them wintry. Fair for most other areas with broken cloud and sunny spells. Cloud increases in Ireland later in the afternoon. Light winds for all but East Anglia.

Rain tonight in western Ireland whilst the east will be drier. Broken cloud elsewhere with a frost in Scotland.
