Issued: 0530hrs Friday 15th December 2023
Duty forecaster: Filotas Paschos

Mostly dry bright away from far northwest. Rain and strong winds Northwest Scotland.

As a ridge of high pressure extends over much of the country, we should expect generally dry and bright condition across England and Wales. Further north, cloud will be thicker across Northern Ireland and Scotland with frequent shower over the Hebrides and the Northwest Highland as well as Strathclyde, these will merge into a longer spell of rain later and will spread northeast across the Northern Isles in the afternoon. The best of the brightness is expected over Southeast England with occasional sunny spells too.Light winds for most, but strong in northwest Scotland with coastal gales spreading northeast later over the Western and then the Northern Isles. Temperature will rise up to around 10C in Northern Ireland, but up to 8C in Scotland, England and Wales.

Rain from the north will clear through the evening and early night, with only some light rain or drizzle remaining over western and central Highlands. Elsewhere it will be a dry night with some clear spells. Windy in north with gales in exposure, but winds will be fresh elsewhere. A very mild night for the north with minimum temperatures at 10-11C, but it will be cooler across southeast England as the lighter winds and clear spells will result to mins of 5C.
