There's a fair amount of dry weather around today, but some showery rain too. Best chance for staying dry today will be over central and eastern England and much of Wales. Eastern Scotland also fares well for dry and bright spells.

Showery rain affects northern England and western Scotland. Some rain or drizzle too for southwest England, turning into persistent heavy rain into the evening.

Rain becomes extensive over England and Wales into tonight and southwesterly winds will strengthen to gale force.

Today's top temperatures reaching 5 to 8C, locally up to 10 to 12C in the far south.
