Severe gales in Scotland, heavy rain here too, drier further south

Severe gales in Scotland and northern England this morning. Some heavy rain in the north and west of Scotland, this moving into northern and western Ireland. Fair for much of central and eastern England as well as eastern Wales. Some cloud in western Wales with a few spots of drizzle on coasts and hills.

This afternoon sees the rain band slip south into northern England and Ireland. Windy weather with gales in northern Scotland, heavy showers in the west of Scotland, turning increasingly wintry on hills. Drier and brighter eastern Scotland. Central and southern England should be staying dry although cloud increasing.

Patchy rain and cloud clearing south through Wales, the Midlands and southern England this evening. Turning cooler from the north. Staying windy in Scotland, gales north and east with some heavy showers over the hills on Scotland, falling as sleet and snow at times.
