Very warm south and wet Scotland at first, then turning drier next week before colder later in the week

Fair weather in much of England and Wales in the coming days and a very warm spell ahead. Heavy rain in Scotland this weekend may lead to some flooding here. Turning colder from Wednesday in the north and then all areas from Thursday. Some rain as the colder weather arrives but this soon clearing to brighter spells and a few showers.

Monday 9/10/23
High pressure remains to the south on Monday with lower pressure to the northeast of Scotland introducing a fresher northwest flow. The risk of some showers in the north and west of Scotland. Morning mist and fog patches in central and southern England will be clearing to leave a dry day with sunny spells although always a fair amount of cloud especially in northern and western areas and in Ireland. Murky at times over western coasts. Highs at 23C in the sunshine in the south, 12C in northern Scotland.

Tuesday 10/10/23
Low pressure over Iceland on Tuesday will bring blustery winds and outbreaks of rain to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Less windy elsewhere and dry with sunny spells. Highs at 15 to 24C.

Wednesday 11/10/23
A cold front moves south on Wednesday bringing spells of rain, heavy for a time as it passes through Scotland and eventually into northern England, Ireland and Wales, then moving towards southern England through the afternoon. Clearing to the north with brighter, drier and cooler weather. Southeast England staying dry until evening. Highs at 16 to 23C, though cooler across northern Scotland.

Thursday 12/10/23
A wet very early morning on Thursday across southeast England before the rain soon clears here. High pressure ridges in elsewhere bringing a dry day, bright but comparatively cooler. A few showers in northern Scotland. Highs at 12 to 17C.

Friday 13/10/23
Friday is a mainly a dry and fine day with weak high pressure over the country. Possible showers on to western Scotland and more cloud with the risk of some rain through the Channel. Highs at 12 to 16C.

Saturday 14/10/23
A ridge of high pressure remains on Saturday. Fair overall with good spells of sunshine and dry too. However, a few showers could affect the far north of Scotland. Highs at 12 to 16C.
