High pressure brings plenty of cold, dry weather this weekend and into the new week, then turning windier and more mixed

A mostly dry start to next week, with some cloud and light rain building in from the southwest from Tuesday with a little light rain at times in England and Wales. Brighter further north.

Monday 16/10/23
Pressure remains high on Monday and this allows for light winds and some morning mist and fog patches. These slowly lifting to leave a fair amount of cloud through Monday of the most of England and Wales. Some brighter skies for central and eastern Scotland as well as the north and west of Ireland. However, a few showers could affect a northern and western Scotland with a risk of some spots of drizzle over the high ground of England and Wales. An increasing chance of some drizzle also affecting south-western coasts of England, and southern coast of Ireland. Highs at 9 to 13C.

Tuesday 17/10/23
A slightly cloudier and less chilly day across England and Wales courtesy of warmer air introduced by a low southwest of the UK. Pressure will build once more for most and a largely dry day, with sunny spells emerging at times for most. Highs of 7 to 14C.

Wednesday 18/10/23
Some light rain pushing into Southern England during the day, fragmenting as it tracks northwards. Cloudier in the midlands and Wales, with the best of any brightness in the north. More persistent rain in Western Ireland. Highs of 8 to 15C north to south.

Thursday 19/10/23
A cloudy day with periods of rain across England and Wales. Some brighter spells possible once more in Scotland, especially in the east. 9 to 14C for most.

Friday 20/10/23
A windy day for Friday with soe showers over northern England. Dry for many although with broken cloud too. Feeling cold in the wind with highs at 9 to 11C for most but to 17C in southwest England.

Saturday 21/10/23
A further cloudy day across England and Wales with plenty of cloud and a chance of light rain or drizzle. Once again, a few sunny spells in the North of England and particularly eastern Scotland. Highs of 9 to 14c.
