Milder air makes a comeback as the week progresses

This week sees a battle between milder air to the southwest and colder conditions to the North and East of the UK. As expected, the milder air will prevail... but for how long?

Tuesday 17/10/23
High pressure maintains its grip on Tuesday, leading to a clear and cold start with morning frost, along with mist and fog patches in Northern England, North Wales, and Scotland. The South will experience cloudier conditions, keeping temperatures above freezing. Conditions will remain cloudier and windier in the South and West as milder air begins to return in association with a low-pressure system to the southwest. The best of the sunshine will be in the North, albeit with cooler temperatures. Highs will range from 9 to 15C.

Wednesday 18/10/23
A cloudier and milder day is expected across the UK, with the best clear spells in the North and West, away from a brisk easterly breeze blowing in from the North Sea. Rain will move in from the South, with the heaviest rainfall totals expected over high ground in Southwest England. Becoming wet through much of England and Wales as the day progresses. Highs will be in the range of 10 to 15C.

Thursday 19/10/23
Outbreaks of rain will spread from Southern England into the Midlands, Northern England, Northern Ireland, and Southern Scotland. It will be overcast and mild, with strong winds along the Eastern coastal areas of Northern England and Scotland. Highs will range from 10 to 15C.

Friday 20/10/23
Expect a cloudy day with periods of occasionally heavy rain across England and Scotland. It will remain windy along eastern coasts, with the best chance of any brightness in Northwest Scotland. A few spots of rain in eastern Scotland too. Highs will be in the range of 10 to 15C.

Saturday 21/10/23
Rather cloudy through Saturday with fronts bringing some outbreaks of rain at times. There may be a few brighter spells here and there. Staying breezy in Scotland. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Sunday 22/10/23
Low pressure remains in control on Saturday. This brings more cloud and some showery bits of rain in Ireland and Scotland but drier to the south. Highs at 11 to 15C.
