Rain & showers

Issued: 0955 Sunday 13 December 2015
Duty forecaster: John Ejdowski

Gusty winds at times

Overall much of this week will be unsettled as low pressure dominates and frontal systems come in from the west. The rain will be heavy at times with a further risk of flooding in the northwest and Wales. We expect temperatures mild to very mild with the coldest temperatures across Scotland.

Wednesday 16/12/15
Quite mild. Rain to affect most places in the morning, perhaps heaviest across northern England. By afternoon patchy rain and drizzle affects western coasts and hills with low cloud and mistiness. More rain spills in across northern Britain in the night. Expect maximum temperatures of 9 to 14C.

Thursday 17/12/15
Unseasonably mild temperatures are expected. A windy day as well as an area of heavy rain affects the north and the west in the day. This then pushes into central and eastern areas of England tonight. Expect highs of 11 to 15C.

Friday 18/12/15
It continues mild but temperatures down a few degrees from Thursday. After residual rain across the south east soon clears, a brief ridge of high pressure should give the country a largely fair and dry day. Expect lots of cloud with some breaks in the afternoon to give sunnier spells. We may see rain coming in across all area in the night this heavy in the south west. Expect maximum temperatures of 9 to 13C.

Saturday 19/12/15
It looks cloudy, very windy and quite mild again with outbreaks of heavy rain, the rain light in the south east. Gales possible in the north and west. Expect maximum temperatures of 12 to 14C.

Sunday 20/12/15
Today temperatures fall closer to normal but still above normal in the south. Expect a good deal of dry weather to come. A number of blustery showers to affect western areas along with Scotland with snow showers over the Highlands. Confidence is low, but strong gales may affect western Britain tonight as more heavy rain sweeps in from the west. Expect maximum temperatures of 6 to 11C.

Monday 21/12/15
A windy day with gales in the west. Outbreaks of rain in the east clear leaving a blustery day of sunshine and showers. These mainly in the west and may be heavy. As it turns colder the showers across northern Scotland will turn wintry. Expect maximum temperatures of 5 to 10C.
