Areas of low pressure will affect Britain as frontal systems come in from the west. The rain will be heavy at times with a further risk of flooding in the northwest and Wales. We expect temperatures mild to very mild with the coldest temperatures across Scotland. Strong south west winds will prevail gusting to 70 mph at times.

Wednesday 23/12/15 A drier day with sunny spells. Scattered showers to come across western Britain, a few may be wintry over the hills of northern Scotland. Strong winds again develop later in the day with potentially damaging gusts over 90 mph in the north of Scotland by evening. Gusts of 70 mph may affect northern England and North Wales. Expect maximum temperatures of 6 to 11C.
Christmas Eve 24/12/15 A cloudy day with rain for many. Somewhat drier in the afternoon with some showers in the south. Not so windy today. Colder but still mild in the south. Largely dry and colder in the night with a slight frost in rural locations. Expect highs of 5 to 12C.
Christmas Day 25/12/15 Colder and becoming windy in the south through the day as rain spreads into all but the north of England and Scotland where it will dry with sunny spells. Perhaps a wintry shower over The Highlands. Frosty overnight across northern Britain with light rain in the south. Expect maximum temperatures of 5 to 10C.
Boxing Day 26/12/15 It looks very mild across southern parts of England and Wales, colder to the north. Generally a cloudy day and some rain may affect England and Wales - sunny and dry across Scotland and Northern Ireland. That rain may spread north tonight. There is lower confidence on the extent of the rain. Expect maximum temperatures of 3 to 14C.
Sunday 27/12/15 Temperatures generally normal to above normal come as southerly winds increase. More cloudy in the west with some patchy light rain and drizzle - dry across central and eastern areas with some sunshine. Expect maximum temperatures of 8 to 12C.
Monday 28/12/15 A windy day with in the west. Outbreaks of rain may linger across northern and western parts of Britain. Elsewhere it's fair and dry with cloud and sunny spells. Expect maximum temperatures of 8 to 13C.
