Windy at times
The first week of 2016 will remain unsettled, as low pressure across the country brings regular falls of rain, which will not help the flooding situation, although generally not the dramatic rainfall totals of recently. Temperatures near average, and may become colder later in the week.

Monday 04/01/16 Low pressure centred over Ireland brings and unsettled day to most of the British Isles. Areas of rain, some prolonged falls, mixed with showery bursts. Most frequent rainfall likely toward the west and south-west of England & Wales, where squally winds will gust over 50mph around the coasts. Drier central & eastern areas. A band of rain may persist in eastern Scotland, accompanied by strong easterly winds. Snow over the Highlands. Highs 6 to 10C.
Tuesday 05/01/16 Low pressure centred across Britain produces another day of heavy showers mixed with bright spells. Bursts of rain will affect many areas, particularly toward the south & west. Central regions may stay dry for a few hours. Eastern Scotland sees further rain, and hill snow, perhaps also affecting north-east England. Gusty winds again toward the south and south-west, light winds for central areas, but chilly easterlies across Scotland. Highs 5 to 10C.
Wednesday 06/01/16 Staying unsettled, with continued bouts of rain spreading from the Atlantic. Heaviest and most persistent falls likely to be across Wales and the south-west. Areas of rain and showers for northern Britain, some snow over the hills again. Breezy, locally squally winds. Occasional drier interludes, but limited sunshine. Temperatures 5 to 10C.
Thursday 07/01/16 Much uncertainty about detail, but a developing area of low pressure threatens to spread across the country, bringing the risk of gales and heavy rain, possibly turning to snow on the northern edge of this system, which may affect Scotland or northern England. Temperatures ranging from 4C in the north, to perhaps 12C in the south.
Friday 08/01/16 A cool and unsettled westerly pattern is expected, with heavy bursts of rain, also snow and hail at times, spreading from the west. Occasional sunshine, best toward the east. Strong and gusty winds. A chilly feel, highs 4 to 8C.
Saturday 09/01/16 Likely to stay unsettled, with areas of rain and wintry showers, mixed with some sunshine. Cool overall. Highs 4 to 8C.
