Wet and windy, gales at times and a risk of localised flooding

A very unsettled week ahead. Low pressure will be bringing rain and frequently strong winds. Gales are going to be widespread. Flooding may affect parts of Wales, northwest England and western Scotland. Colder in Scotland, but milder than average for much of England, Wales and Ireland. Early hints of an improvement next week.

Thursday 3/12/15
Low pressure looks set to bring a wet day through much of Wales and England on Thursday. This rain could be heavy and may bring a risk of localised flooding. A few showers in northwest Scotland, but the rest of Scotland and Ireland should be dry with sunny spells. Possibly drier in southeast England. A cold day in the rain with highs at 5C, but nearer 14C in southeast England.

Friday 4/12/15
Rain is expected to be slow moving over southern and eastern England on Friday as fronts are reluctant to clear. Drier for Wales and northern England as well as much of Scotland, although gales setting in here with rain arriving in the west. Tops at 7 to 12C.


 

Saturday 5/12/15
Low pressure north of Scotland with a strong to gale force southwest flow through all areas. This brings rain to the north and west, some of it heavy with a risk of flooding. Less rain east and south. Highs at 8 to 12C.

 
 
 

Sunday 6/12/15
Low pressure west of Ireland on Sunday bringing a southwest flow. This pushes a warm front northeastwards taking rain across Ireland and western parts of the UK. Milder, drizzle and mainly cloudy conditions over much of southern England and Wales. Tops at 7 to 12C.

Monday 7/12/15
The southwest flow is maintained through Monday with low pressure west of Scotland. Heavy bursts of rain across much of Scotland, northern Ireland, Wales and western England as well as Ireland. Drier south and east. Very windy for all with severe gales in northern and western parts. Highs at 9 to 14C.

Tuesday 8/12/15
A ridge of high pressure may bring a better day with drier conditions and sunny spells. Winds should be lighter too. Highs at 6 to 11C.
