Gales to affect the country

Overall much of this week will be unsettled as low pressure dominates and frontal systems come in from the west. The rain will be heavy at times with a further risk of flooding in the northwest and Wales. We expect temperatures mild to very mild with the coldest temperatures across Scotland. Strong south west winds will prevail gusting to 70 mph at times.

Tuesday 22/12/15
Heavy rain and gales to come and remaining mild. The rain heaviest in the west, lighter across eastern England. Again gusts of 70 mph are likely in the north and west with 50 mph inland. Drier overnight but colder across Scotland with a few rain and snow showers. Expect maximum temperatures of 10 to 14C.


Wednesday 23/12/15
Today temperatures falling back closer to normal values but stay above normal for Wales and the south of England. A drier day with sunny spells. Scattered showers to come across Britain, these of snow over the hills of northern Scotland. Expect highs of 5 to 11C.
 


Christmas Eve 24/12/15
An area of rain sweeps in across Britain with gales in the north and west. As the rain clears Scotland in the afternoon, expect showers, wintry over the Highlands - milder across England and Wales. Expect maximum temperatures of 5 to 12C.

 
 
 


Christmas Day 25/12/15
A mild, wet and windy Christmas Day to come across Wales, central and southern England. The rain will be heavy and may push into northern parts of Britain in the night. Expect maximum temperatures of 5 to 13C.

 
 
 


Boxing Day 26/12/15
It looks very mild and windy for England and Wales, cold across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Generally a cloudy day. Confidence is low but some rain may affect the Northern England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Expect maximum temperatures of 4 to 14C.

Sunday 27/12/15
A windy day with in the west. Outbreaks of rain may linger across northern and western parts of Britain. Elsewhere it's fair and dry with cloud and sunny spells. Expect maximum temperatures of 6 to 14C.
