Remaining very unsettled with gales and heavy rain at times, turning cooler

Staying unsettled through the coming week. Low pressure will be bringing strong winds and heavy periods of rain, especially in the west. This means that further flooding is possible in the areas already affected. Tending to turn cooler as the week progresses.

New Years Day 1/1/16
A ridge of high pressure building through the country on Friday. It should be a dry day in much of England, Wales and Scotland, perhaps with some mist or fog patches at first. A deepening area of low pressure west of Ireland bringing some cloud and rain into Ireland with gale force winds developing. Highs at a chilly 4 to 8C.

Saturday 2/1/16
A shallow area of low pressure edges eastwards across the country on Saturday. This is likely to be giving cool conditions with cloud and outbreaks of rain. Western areas probably seeing most of the rain, although this is not expected to be heavy. Tops near 6 to 9C.


 

Sunday 3/1/16
A further area of low pressure is expected to be to the west of Scotland on Sunday. More rain and strong winds passing through Ireland and into the UK, heavy at times in the west and south. Highs at 5 to 11C.

 
 
 

Monday 4/1/16
An area of low pressure may cross southern parts of the UK on Monday. This brings a cold day with strong winds. periods of heavy rain in southern England and Wales, with an increasing risk of some snow on hills. Cloud and some rain in western Scotland, but drier for the east. Highs at 5 to 11C.

Tuesday 5/1/16
Further outbreaks of rain through Thursday with a shallow area of low pressure over the UK. Feeling cool with tops of 4 to 8C.

Wednesday 6/1/16
Cloud and rain in eastern areas, drier to the west. Some sunny spells may occur in western areas with tops of 5 to 10C.
