Wet and windy, a risk of local flooding

A brief spell of cooler weather could arrive just in time for Christmas. There is even the chance of some snow over the highest hills of Scotland and northern England. However, by next week it is back to the unsettled and wet weather. Strong winds are likely too, and there is going to be a risk of some local flooding in the west through the weekend and into the new week.

Christmas Day 25/12/15
An area of low pressure looks set to pass through southern Ireland and central parts of the UK on Christmas Day. This brings strong winds and the potential for heavy rain over much of Ireland, Wales and England, a risk of local flooding in the west. Scotland stays cooler with some snow showers on the hills. Highs near 5C in Scotland, 12C in southern England.

Boxing Day 26/12/15
Fronts staying over southern UK on Boxing Day. These give heavy periods of rain to much of southern Ireland, Wales and England. A risk of some sleet over the tops of the southern Pennines. Colder and drier in Scotland, some sunny spells here. Tops near 3 to 12C.


 

Sunday 27/12/15
Low pressure takes cloud and rain into the North Sea during Sunday. A milder, southerly flow then develops. Cloud and rain in Ireland and western Scotland, rather cloudy elsewhere and some mist and murk too. Highs at 5 to 12C.

 
 
 

Monday 28/12/15
High pressure to the east on Monday, low pressure to the west. Rain in Ireland and a few spots in west Wales and western Scotland, but generally drier to the east. Plenty of mist and low cloud in the west too. Winds in the west with highs at 9 to 12C.



Tuesday 29/12/15
Low pressure will be to the west of Scotland on Tuesday. A strong southwest wind will be bringing heavy periods of rain to western parts of the country. Drier in the southeast. A risk of local flooding in the west. Highs near 8 to 12C.

Wednesday 30/12/15
More rain on Wednesday, heavy in the west. There is a risk of local flooding once again, and strong winds too. Highs at 9 to 12C.
