Staying very unsettled this week, with signs of cooler weather into the New Year

very unsettled weather continues through the coming week. Low pressure areas will be bringing rain and strong winds, the rain heavy at times and enhancing flooding problems. Generally it will be midl, but temperaures tending to slip as the week progresses, with some distinctly cooler weather early next week.

New Years Eve 31/12/15
A west ot southwest flow across the UK and Ireland on New Years Eve. Rain clears east on Thursday morning. Showers in northern and western Scotland, drier elsewhere with some bright or sunny spells. A further front passing east during the day bringing a band of rain trough all areas, then turning drier to the west again later, although with scattered showers. Mostly dry for New Years Eve parties. Highs at 6 to 10C.

New Years Day 1/1/16
Low pressure to the northwest of Ireland will be bringing increasing winds and some heavy periods of rain into Ireland, then into the far west of Wales and southwest England later in the day. Drier across much of the UK mainland, some bright spels, the best of them in the east. Feeling cooler at 4 to 8C.


 

Saturday 2/1/16
Low pressure edges eastwards across the country on Saturday. This is likely to be giving cool conditions with cloud and rain in eastern areas. Probably turning drier to the west with some bright or sunny spells developing. Showers in western Scotland and western Ireland. Tops near 4 to 7C.
 

Sunday 3/1/16
A further area of low pressure is expected to be to the north of Ireland on Sunday. More rain and strong winds passing through Ireland and into the UK, heavy at times in the west. Highs at 4 to 8C.



Monday 4/1/16
An area of low pressure may cross southern parts of the Uk on Monday. This brings a cold day with strong winds. periods of heavy rain in southern England and Wales, with a risk of some snow on hills. Cloud and some rain in eastern Scotland, but drier for western Scotland. Highs at 4 to 7C.

Tuesday 5/1/16
A chilly day for Tuesday. Rain clears east and then most western and southern areas are dry. Always more cloud in the east with a risk of some showery spots of rain or sleet here. Highs at 3 to 6C.
