Complicated transition back to milder air into midweek

Cold conditions continue through the weekend, with snow showers possible. Early in the new week, milder air will attempt to push in, but it may take a few days for this to move across all of Britain. A mix of rain and some snow for a time.

Sunday 3/12/23
Risk of some rain, sleet and snow moving across central and southern England early in the day, passing eastwards and fading out. Snow over higher ground, perhaps to quite low elevations may leave a covering. Showers near to the south coast. Then dry with hazy sun and cloud. Mostly dry for northern England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Local wintry showers near to the coasts. Possible rain moving into the far southwest later in the day as southeasterly winds increase. Highs 2 to 5C.

Monday 4/12/23
Low pressure lies to the southwest of Britain. East to southeasterly winds are likely. Areas of snow flurries across northern and eastern regions. A zone of rain over the southwest may push northwards into central England and Wales, bringing a risk of snow, especially over hills, perhaps lower down for a time. Milder in the southwest. Chilly in the north with frost. Highs 2 to 7C.

Tuesday 5/12/23
Many places dry with frost and some fog patches. Mostly light winds. A few local coastal showers. Residual drizzly rain or sleet for some. Another frontal system pushes in from the southwest into Ireland with milder air and some rain. Staying chilly, close to freezing if fog persists. Highs up to 6 to 9C in far southwest.
 

Wednesday 6/12/23
Much uncertainty on the progress of low pressure into midweek. Most likely milder air pushing in from the southwest, with a risk of strong winds and rain. If this system stays toward the south, then some snow is possible, mainly over the hills. Highs 3 to 10C, mildest in southwest.

Thursday 7/12/23
Most likely milder southwesterly winds later in the week. Areas of rain and drizzle focused on western regions. Drier to the east. Highs 6 to 12C.

Friday 8/12/23
Fronts passing eastwards bring rain followed by showers. Wettest in the west. Generally mild and breezy. Highs 7 to 12C.
