Wintry northern hills

A chilly, fresh northwest flow across the country again through this morning. There will be a scattering of showers affecting north and western Wales, eastern coasts of England and the far northwest of Scotland. Most places starting the day dry though with good spells of sunshine. An area of more persistent showers may develop across eastern parts of the Midlands, East Anglia and then southeast England by late morning, drifting into southeast England this afternoon. Further showers this afternoon in northern Scotland and Northern Ireland, some wintry over the hills of northern Scotland. Dry elsewhere with good spells of sunshine, but feeling cold. Highs at 7 to 12C.

Tuesday Night
Becoming dry for most areas overnight. A few showers over coasts facing the northwest breeze. Mor persistent showers in northern Scotland and then some rain in northwest Ireland later. Clearer skies for many with a touch of frost in northern England and Scotland. Lows at 0 to 4C overall.

A small area of low pressure in the North Sea will sink south through the day on Wednesday. This brings with it some showers through eastern areas, then pushing into the Midlands and southeast England. A further areas of showers sinking south through Ireland and into the west of Wales and southwest England. Elsewhere the showers are more scattered, but there will be some and an odd heavier one too. The showers wintry over the hills of Scotland and northern England. Feeling cold for all with highs at 7 to 10C.

A ridge of high pressure affects most of England, Wales and Irland on Thursday. The best sunshine in central and southern areas but increasing cloud in the north of this region, staying dry. For Scotland cloud will be thickening as a front approaches. This brings rain, most in the north and west with coastal and hills fog. The rain arrives in more eastern and southern areas of Scotland in the afternoon. Temperatures around 9 to 13C.
