More rain at times

Unsettled weather patterns continue during the first week of 2024, bringing more heavy rain across many places, but especially in south with a risk of local flooding. Chillier air in the north and some more hill snow likely at times. Likely to turn colder for all later in the week ahead with a greater risk of frost.

Wednesday 3/1/24
A generally unsettled day with rain or showers in the west and north. Heavy bursts for Wales and southwest England may bring hail and thunder locally. Showers running eastward along the English Channel coast. Drier for the eastern Midlands and East Anglia, a lot of cloud and limited sun. Windy in the south, lighter winds further north. Fairly mild overall, highs 6 to 10C, but chillier in northern Scotland.

Thursday 4/1/24
A weak area of low pressure stays nearby. Showers in western areas, some rain more widely over Scotland, snow on the mountains. Rain may move over the far south of England followed by showers in the southwest. Drier central and eastern England with some sun. Fairly light winds for many. Highs 4C northern Scotland, 7C northern England, locally as high as 12C in southeastern England for a time.

Friday 5/1/24
Slack low pressire over the country. Risk of rain or sleet in eastern Scotland with a further areas of showers in southern Ireland and southwest England. Most other areas will be dry abd bright with sunny spells. An early frost for many. Light and variable winds. Highs 4 to 8C.


 

Saturday 6/1/24
Pressure tends to build gradually. Feeling chillier for all with a northerly breeze in the east bringing a few showers. Mostly dry with sunshine in western areas. A widespread frost. Highs 2 to 5C for most, 7C in the southwest.

Sunday 7/1/24
High pressure to the west and north. Chilly for all. Cloud and some wintry showers in northern areas. Best sunshine in the west and south. Highs at 2 to 5C.

Monday 8/1/24
High pressure is likely to be centred to the northwest. Feeling chilly with a northeasterly breeze bringing wintry showers to eastern England. Highs 2 to 5C.
