A fine start though with widespread overnight frost and patchy fog which will be slow to clear across inland Highland and central Scotland temperatures remaining just below freezing all day. Otherwise sunny through the afternoon
. For Northern Scotland, western Isles, Orkney and Shetland sunny spells between frequent often squally showers mainly of rain but some of snow. More frequent snow showers for Aberdeen to Tayside throughout the day with a fresh north to northeast wind. Temperatures briefly 3C with a high windchill.
For Wales, Midlands and southern England a dry and sunny day with variable cloud once any fog and frost has cleared, temperatures 3 to 5C being higher for southwest and southern counties to the lee of a fresh north to northeast wind. A mix of rain and snow showers is likely along the North Sea coast from Humber to the Wash and snow showers are likely off or near to Dyfed coasts of south Wales. Dry and mostly sunny for Northern Ireland, temperatures 3-5C A dry evening for most with variable cloud to clear skies overnight and with light to calm wind fog and frost will be widespread, lowest temperatures -4C for Scotland away from coasts to 2C southwest and southeast England.
