Warmer later this week, then cooler further ahead

An improving weather story for southern and eastern regions this week as weather systems drift further northwards. Some pleasantly warm spring days, but things then look cooler again by the start of next week with showery conditions.

Wednesday 10/4/24
A ridge of high pressure moves away eastwards as fronts come back in from the Atlantic. A dry start for eastern counties gives way to thickening cloud. Rain already into western areas in the morning becomes more widespread, but small amounts reach the southeast. Most persistent heaviest rain for western Scotland, northwest England and western Ireland. Showers follow later. Breezy. Highs 10 to 15C.

Thursday 11/4/24
High pressure toward the south. Mild southwesterlies. Weak fronts draped over the country bring a fair amount of cloud, plus patchy rain and drizzle over western regions. Some steadier rain may develop. Drier and brighter toward eastern regions, feeling pleasantly warm in any sunshine. Highs 12 to 19C.
 

Friday 12/4/24
Southwesterly breezes continue. High pressure to the south keeps most of central and southern England and Wales dry with occasional sunshine. Periods of rain for Scotland and Northern Ireland. A little rain for northwest England. Cloud and patchy drizzle for northwest Wales. Feeling warm south and east. Highs 13 to 20C.
 

Saturday 13/4/24
Staying mainly dry in the south and east, pleasantly warm with sunny spells. Westerly breezes bring cloud and some showery rain the west and northwest, most frequent in western Scotland. A little fresher. Highs 12 to 17C.

Sunday 14/4/24
Becoming cooler as winds turn west to northwesterly. Showery in the north, rain most frequent in western Scotland. Mostly dry for central and southern England and Wales, sunny spells. Highs 10 to 15C.

Monday 15/4/24
Looking much cooler with north to northwesterly winds. Widely showery, some heavy bursts with a risk of hail and thunder, plus snow on northern hills. Highs 7 to 12C.
