Damp, murky south with periods of rain, drier north and colder here too

A windy morning across much of England, Wales and eastern Ireland, gusts to 40 to 50mph in places. There will be rain across much of Scotland, northwest England, Wales and the western Midlands. A few showers in the east of England. Brighter and drier as well as cooler across Ireland, west Wales and southwest England.

This afternoon sees further rain in eastern areas. Tending to become drier and brighter in the west with sunny spels. A few showers in western Scotland. Staying windy for much of Scotland, England and eastern Wales, although the winds easing in the west later.

Tonight is cooler and dry. Winds will be generally light. Some clear skies. Increasing cloud in Ireland and western areas of Wales, England and Scotland with rain by morning in southern Ireland, southwest Wales and southwest England.
