Cold westerly winds affect the country, bringing belts of wintry showers. Snow and hail focused on western areas, falling to low elevations at times, and extensively over the hills. Brisk winds will feel chilly. Sunny spells away from showers, most frequent in the east. Icy conditions in the morning and evening where showers have occurred. Highs 2 to 5C northern areas, 6 to 8C south.

Tuesday night
Further wintry showers will come inland from western coasts overnight giving a risk of ice, and some further snow over the hills. Dry for central, southern and eastern Britain with some clear skies. Chilly, with frost in shelter from the wind. Temperatures dipping to between -2 and +3C.
 

Wednesday
Snow showers over northern and western Scotland as well as the hills of northwest England tend to fade through the morning before a band of heavier, more persistent rain arrives over northwest Ireland, Northern Ireland and much of Scotland. Tending to be dry and bright later across much of England, Ireland and Wales as well as northeast Scotland. Continuing chilly with highs at 4 to 8C.

Thursday
Low pressure to the north brings rain to western Scotland. A risk of some rain also affecting the far south and southwest of England. Cloudy with patchy rain in Wales and northwest England. Dry with sunny spells in eastern England. Highs of 6C in northern Scotland to 8 to 10C everywhere else.
