Unsettled and mild with periods of rain, turning colder for all on Christmas Eve

Staying unsettled through the coming week with outbreaks of rain and strengthening winds across the whole country. Staying mild in the south through until just before Christmas, before a cold snap is expected to bring sleet and snow showers to northern, eastern and higher ground during the Christmas period.

Sunday 20/11/20
A day of sunny spells and scattered showers on Sunday. The showers are most likely in western and southern areas. Central and eastern parts are drier with the best of the sunny spells here. Temperatures around or just above average at 7 to 10C.

 
 
 


Monday 21/12/20
Low pressure affects all parts of the UK and Ireland on Monday. An area of heavy rain will cross Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England as well as southern Scotland with some strong winds in places. Northern Scotland will be brighter with a few showers. Mild in the south but cold in northern Scotland. Highs at 5C in northern Scotland, 13C in southern England.
 


Tuesday 22/12/20
A further area of low pressure will track across Ireland, England and Wales on Tuesday. This brings the threat of some heavy rain to the south. Brighter and colder for Northern Ireland and Scotland as well as the far north of England. Highs at 13C in the far south, 5C in Scotland.

Wednesday 23/12/20
A low pressure centre crosses southern England on Wednesday bringing unsettled conditions for many. It will bring cloud and rain across southern areas with a risk of some sleet and snow over the hills of Wales, northern England and southern Scotland. It may be that some wet snow occurs at lower levels later. Potentially drier and brighter yet cold across northern Scotland. Some wintry showers to the northeast. Highs at 2 to 8C.

Christmas Eve 24/12/20
Rain and sleet in southern England on Christmas Eve. Colder air dragging into the rest of the UK with scattered snow showers in Scotland and down eastern coasts of England. A widepsread frost across Scotland and northern England with temperatures struggling to reach above zero for many. Highs at 1 to 5C.

Christmas Day 25/12/20
A cold day for all again with rain, sleet and snow showers down eastern coasts of Scotland and England but also across with snow over the higher ground. Drier and birghter further east. Widespread frost in the north again with temperatures still struggling to reach above zero for many here. Highs at 1 to 5C.
