Week ahead - October 24, 2017
Largely dry
Often cloudy

Issued: 0900hrs Tuesday 24th October 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Generally mild; some fog and frost

A quiet end to October is expected as high pressure resides close to the British Isles. Largely dry and mild, but often a lot of cloud cover. Where cloud breaks overnight, there is a chance of slight frosts in rural areas, and some fog patches. By the start of November, indications favour things turning more unsettled again and much cooler.

Friday 27/10/17
Pressure is likely to build - the high centred to the south-west of Britain. A generally dry picture. Fairly cloudy in southern areas with patchy drizzle possible locally, but should fade. Bright with sunny spells from the Midlands northwards. Light winds overall; a westerly breeze affects the far north of Scotland. Some early fog patches, and a touch of frost first thing in rural northern areas. Feeling fresher, highs 11 to 16C.

Saturday 28/10/17
High pressure nearby - centred toward the south-west of the British Isles. Dry for most, although quite cloudy. Some sunshine breaking through in the east. A little rain or drizzle possible around western coasts and hills. A west to north-westerly breeze may freshen, especially in northern & eastern Britain. Chance of fog patches in the morning toward the south & west, and a rural frost is possible. Highs 11 to 16C.

Sunday 29/10/17
Little change for many. Largely dry, although patchy rain may affect north-west Scotland. Fairly cloudy skies overall, but some sunshine breaking through in central & south-eastern Britain. A west to north-westerly breeze may make things feel cool. Chance of local fog and slight frost early morning toward the south-west of Britain and across southern Ireland. Highs 11 to 16C.

Monday 30/10/17
High pressure stays focused toward the south-west. A similar mostly cloudy but dry outlook, with a chance of patchy rain in the far north-west, but most places should stay dry. A light westerly breeze. Fairly mild. Highs 11 to 15C.

Tuesday 31/10/17
A freshening wind is likely, with some rain developing for north-western regions. Staying dry for many. Best of any sunshine toward the east & south. Still quite mild at 11 to 15C.

Wednesday 01/11/17
Detail is uncertain, but a change to cooler and more unsettled is expected. Fronts advancing down from the north-west bring a threat of rain to most places, followed by showers. Blustery winds. Highs 9 to 13C.
