Cooler, drier weekend
Mixed next week

Issued: 0900 Wednesday 26th August 2020
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

A drier and cooler weekend before turning more mixed and milder next week

A less windy week ahead. Temperatures falling into the weekend as the winds become more northerly, bringing a risk of a touch of ground frost in well sheltered areas on Saturday and Sunday night. Drier through the weekend too, and staying dry for many for Monday. Hints of some more mixed weather and outbreaks of rain into the middle of next week with temperatures lifting once again. Saturday 29/8/20
A cool, northerly flow affects the UK and Ireland on Saturday. There will be some good spells of sunshine but also a scattering of showers blowing in on the breeze. Most of the showers affecting coasts and hills which are exposed to the wind. Highs at 13 to 17C.

Sunday 30/8/20
A ridge of high-pressure will affect the whole of Ireland and the UK on Sunday. After a cold start the day will be bright and dry with sunny spells, but an increase in cloud through the late morning and afternoon for most. An isolated shower may over the hills of Scotland and northern England later. Feeling cool again. Highs at 14 to 17C.

Monday 31/8/20
The ridge of high pressure remains on Monday for much of the UK. This brings a dry day with sunny spells and broken cloud, after a cold start. Fronts moving into Ireland and these will be bringing rain with them, heavy at times in the west. Highs at 14C in Ireland, 15 to 19C elsewhere.

Tuesday 1/9/20
A more mixed day on Tuesday as a front moves very slowly east. This brings outbreaks of rain, most of it affecting western areas. Eastern parts may stay drier, although there is likely to be some spots of rain too. Tops at 13 to 17C.

Wednesday 2/9/20
The remains of a front and a weak area of low pressure may bring cloud and outbreaks of mainly light rain to many areas on Wednesday. Probably turning brighter in the west with some sunny spells. Tops at 14 to 19C.

Thursday 3/9/20
More rain may arrive in the west of the UK and Ireland on Thursday. Drier and brighter central and eastern parts with sunny spells, although cloud increasing. Highs at 15 to 22C.
