Week ahead - May 29, 2017
Mixed start to June
Rain at times

Issued: 1000hrs Monday 29th May 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Temperatures near average, warmest south-east

High pressure across the country during midweek brings some fine days, but things are looking more changeable toward the weekend and beyond as low pressure tries to move in from the Atlantic. Fairly warm and often dry toward the south-east. Cooler with rain more frequent in the north & west.

Thursday 01/06/17
High pressure lies to the east of Britain, whilst low pressure is to the north-west, and a front encroaches in from the Atlantic. Much of Britain should stay dry, with sunny spells and feeling warm - best in the east & south-east. Thicker cloud in the west, with outbreaks of rain developing for western Scotland, and rain likely more persistent across Ireland. Strengthening southerly winds. Highs 17 to 23C.

Friday 02/06/17
A frontal zone is expected to advance erratically eastwards across the country, bringing rain to many areas through the day, perhaps heavy and persistent in the west, but amounts should be small toward the east. Winds easing and becoming variable. Generally cloudy, rare sunshine. Quite humid in the south-east, fresher in the north-west. Highs 16 to 22C, perhaps locally warmer away from rain.

Saturday 03/06/17
Detail is uncertain, but a rather mixed outlook is likely. Low pressure stays to the north-west of Britain, bringing periods of rain or showers to Scotland & Ireland. High pressure toward the south should bring drier conditions to much of England & Wales, but there is a risk of some heavy showers breaking out. Winds mostly light, but breezy in the north-west. Highs 16 to 20C.

Sunday 04/06/17
Confidence of precise detail is low. Generally unsettled toward the north-west, with rain or showers and blustery winds. Brighter overall for the south & east, with sunny spells and fewer showers. Highs 16 to 20C.

Monday 05/06/17
Confidence low: A risk that unsettled conditions become more extensive from the west, with rain spreading further across the country. Fairly cloudy, but warm in any sunshine toward the east. Breezy, or windy in the west. Highs 15 to 21C.

Tuesday 06/06/17
Detail uncertain: Most likely remaining mixed, with areas of rain or showers, but also some brighter and sunny spells. Highs 16 to 22C.
