Monday
A front moves quickly eastwards through the day. A period of rain and hill snow, perhaps sleet or wet snow to quite low levels for a time in northern England and Scotland. A dry start in eastern England, but rain and sleet moves through here by afternoon. Skies will brighten from the west, with occasional sunshine, but showers follow onto western coasts, some of these heavy with hail. Brisk winds, south turning westerly, gales near exposed coasts. Highs 4 to 8C, highest in south.

Monday night
Winds slowly ease and showers near western coasts will fade. Cloud breaks and clear skies for a good part of Britain through the night, allowing temperatures to fall away with frost forming and some icy patches. Local mist patches. High cloud will then build from the west ahead of rain arriving in Ireland and far southwest of Britain later in the night. Southerly winds strengthening quickly to gale force here. Lows 2 to -2C, locally colder in Highland glens.

Tuesday
A deep area of low pressure moves in from the west, centred over Ireland into the afternoon. Fronts advancing eastwards bring heavy rain to Wales and the southwest, turning to snow over the hills as it reaches northern England and Scotland. Eastern regions will be dry in the morning, and toward the east coast it is likely to be dry throughout daylight. Sun weakening to become overcast, rain later. Southerly winds strengthening, severe gales near western coasts. Highs 3 to 7C.

Wednesday
Low pressure influences the British Isles, centred toward the southwest. Areas of rain and some hill snow circulate across the country, persistent in some places, but locally escaping drier for periods, although much uncertainty about the extent of the heavier rain. Winds will also vary, in places up to gale force around some coasts, but others will see a lull in the strongest winds. Best chance for brighter or sunnier spells in western Scotland. Highs 4 to 9C.
