Region: Strathclyde

Warning

Rain will continue across Southern Scotland into Thursday afternoon, and will spread north at times to affect central parts of Scotland. This rain will continue to be heavy at times across Dumfries and Galloway and western Borders, especially over high ground. Some heavy rain is possible at times elsewhere in the warning area, but this is not expected to be as widespread as in the south. Further accumulations of 20 to 30 mm are possible before rain gradually clears from the west this evening.

Warning

A feed of heavy rain will become persistent across southern Scotland from later on Wednesday, lasting overnight and well into Thursday. 60-80 mm of rainfall will build up quite widely, with peak totals of around 100 mm falling in an 18 hour period. The heaviest rain will clear eastwards from mid-morning on Thursday.

Warning

Persistent and at times heavy rainfall, already affecting northwest Wales at the start of this period, is expected to spread southeastwards through Thursday before clearing on Friday. 40-60mm could fall quite widely within the warning area, but over 100mm is probable in a few spots, most likely over northwest Wales/Snowdonia. Heavier bursts are likely to be more isolated across south Wales, but where they do occur 40-60mm is possible in a 6-9 hour period.

Persistent, heavy rain will continue through Wednesday, overnight and for much of Thursday. 100 to 150 mm rain is likely to accumulate quite widely through this period, with 200 to 250 mm falling over prone fells, mainly across the west of the warning area. Rain is likely to become more showery and less persistent, albeit still heavy at times, during Thursday night and perhaps Friday morning, with a separate yellow warning still in force at that time.
