Showers next week

A windy weekend, rain and showers for most

A windy weekend to come and one which will remind us that we are well into late summer. Gales affecting western and southern areas on Saturday with frequent, blustery showers. Next week becomes warm again with some thundery showers as low pressure from the Atlantic battles with high pressure building north and east of the UK and Ireland.

Sunday 21/8/16
Low pressure areas are west and east of the country on Sunday with a weak ridge building inbetween the two. Showers in the east, some heavy through the morning tending to ease through the afternoon. More scattered showers to the west with sunny spells to start the day. Fronts bringing rain into Ireland in the morning, pushing east into Wales and southwest England on Sunday afternoon and evening. Tending to be druer and brighter in northern Scotland throughout. Tops at 16 to 21C.

Monday 22/8/16
Low pressure close to western Ireland on Monday. Fronts pass eastwards taking rain with them, most of the rain affecting Scotland, with a further area of rain through southern parts of England, some of this heavy and thundery. Tops at 15 to 23C.

Tuesday 23/8/16
Low pressure to the northwest of Scotland on Tuesday, higher pressure to the south. Periods of rain affecting western Scotland, Northern Ireland and western Ireland too. Showers for England and Wales with some of them turning heavy and possibly thundery. Sunny spells between the showers and perhaps staying dry in East Anglia and the southeast. Tops at 16 to 23C.

Wednesday 24/8/16
A ridge of high pressure builds on Wednesday bringing some good spells of sunshine and warm weather for most. Thundery showers may break out over southern and western England, Wales and southern Ireland later. Highs at 17 to 24C.

Thursday 25/8/16
Uncertainty in the forecast for Thursday, although indications are that building pressure to the north may bring some fair weather here. Thundery showers could break out in the south, perhaps becoming wetter later. An easterly breeze developing and highs at 18 to 25C.

Friday 26/8/16
Approaching the Bank Holiday weekend the weather on Friday looks to become damp or wet across Ireland as rain passes north. Probably dry and warm for the UK with the best sunshine always in the east, although with the threat of some thundery showers. Tops at 18 to 25C.
