An unsettled week, windy at times with rain and showers

A mixed week ahead with rain for many, although most of this affecting Scotland and Ireland. A windy start to the weekend with gales in the west, and then another windy day on Tuesday across Scotland with the risk of severe gales. The end of next week may become cooler and staying unsettled with further spells of rain and showers.

Monday 26/9/16
A weak ridge of high pressure builds on Monday. This brings a dry day in central and eastern England, although western and southern areas are likely to have more cloud and the risk of some showery outbreaks of rain. More persistent rain may affect western Scotland with low pressure to the northwest. heavy periods of rain as low pressure arrives in western Ireland, winds increasing here too. Temperatures at 14 to 19C.

Tuesday 27/9/16
Hints of more unsettled conditions developing through Tuesday. Low pressure passes north of Sotland pushing fronts eastwards and bringing rain, wind and cloud with it to many parts of the country. Turning brighter and drier from the west. Severe gales affecting Scotland with gusts over 60mph. Highs near 13 to 17C but perhaps 19C in sheltered eastern areas where any brightness occurs.

Wednesday 28/9/16
An unsettled day for some on Wednesday as a shallow area of low pressure brings rain into Northern Ireland and Scotland. Much of England and Wales as well as southern Ireland should be dry with broken cloud. The best of the sunshine in central and eastern England. Temperatures at 13 to 21C.
 

Thursday 29/9/16
A cool day with low pressure to the east and higher pressure to the west. There will be some further showers in northern and eastern areas, with the west and south tending to be drier and brighter. Highs at 12 to 17C.

Friday 30/9/16
Lower pressure to the east on Friday. This brings cooler weather with a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers heavy at times and windy too. Tops near 10 to 15C.

Saturday 1/10/16
The area of low pressure remains to the east. Further sunny spells and showers, a few of them heavy in the north and east. Highs at 10 to 16C.
