High pressure begins giving way to unsettled conditions, possibly stormy, around New Year's. Cold northerly winds to follow.

Sunday 29/12/2024 Sunny spells to start Sunday in England and Wales, isolated drizzle patches on western hills. Best chances of sun in the southeast. A front arrives over central Scotland and north Ireland bringing more clouds and rain. Heavy spells in west hills, higher hills in may see snow. Winds accelerating everywhere. Highs of 9C in Britain, up to 11C in Ireland.
Monday 30/12/2024 A push of low pressure starts the week. Persistent rain soon arrives in the northwest, reaching north Ireland and England. Snow likely on the hills. Scattered showers along western coasts but drier around the Midlands and south. Highs of 4C in the north, 10C south.
New Years Eve 31/12/2024 Another push of low pressure in the morning moving heavy rain eastward across the north. Blustery showers follow behind, risk of gales in the northwest. Hills will see snow. A band of rain slides southward along a front reaching southern England by evening. Highs of 8 to 9C in much of Britain, 10C in Ireland.
New Years Day 01/01/2025 A cold northerly breeze arrives overnight. Alternating snow showers and sun spells north, some showers reaching northern England. A core of low pressure near the English Channel brings stronger winds and rain along the coast, snow possible inland. Highs of 2C in the north, 5C south though quite variable. Marked wind chill.
Thursday 02/01/2025 Northerly breeze brings snow showers to northern-exposed coasts and hills, some heavy in the far north. Snow showers will occasionally reach inland. Frequent sunny periods between snow showers. Highs between 0 and 2C, some areas staying colder near -2C. Very cold in the Scottish Highlands.
Friday 03/01/2025 Winds ease into the morning, though remaining very cold. Fog patches in places though the day. A ridge of high pressure keeps things sunny in many places, and isolated snow shower along north-exposed coasts. Highs of -2C where fog lingers, 1C where sun shines. 3C in Ireland.
