Cooler than recently as we move toward October

A strong Atlantic jet stream will drive weather systems in from the west during the week ahead, with spells of wind and rain for all regions of Britain. Temperatures will vary, but trending cooler as we move into the start of October.

Wednesday 29/9/21
An area of low pressure drifts eastward into the North Sea and fizzles out. Early rain and brisk winds in eastern Britain will fade. Risk of gales for a time on North Sea coasts. A brief ridge of high pressure will result in a dry day for much of England & Wales, although staying breezy. A few showers in the northwest. Another Atlantic low approaches from the west, bringing rain initially to Ireland, but reaching western Scotland later in the day. Feeling fresh, highs 13 to 17C.


Thursday 30/9/21
A westerly flow prevails, brisk winds bringing outbreaks of rain or showers passing west to east across Britain. Some persistent rain possible for central England as fronts moves through. Fairly cloudy skies overall. Showery rain frequent toward the northwest, whilst eastern Scotland and northeast England will be drier for periods. Southeast England is likely to start dry, but some rain will spread from the west. Wales may improve later. Highs 13 to 18C.


Friday 1/10/21
Southwesterly winds prevail, strengthening again toward gale force in exposed areas in the north and west as another Atlantic low moves close to northwest Scotland. Rain affects Scotland and Ireland, heaviest in the west. Heavy rain also moves into west Wales and southwest England as the day progresses. The Midlands, south and east of England should stay dry for many hours with some sun, but risk of rain later. Warmest in the southeast, highs 15 to 19C.


Saturday 2/10/21
A deep area of low pressure is due to affect Britain, centred toward the north. A frontal system is expected to pass east and south across England and Wales in the early hours, producing a period of heavy rain for most places. A windy and showery day, with longer spells of rain in the west and northwest. Drier for central, south and eastern England. Gales around coasts and hills. Highs 14 to 18C.

Sunday 3/10/21
Showery westerly winds prevail, with low pressure situated close to northwest Britain. Rain most frequent in the west. Drier and brighter toward southeast England. Possibly another low moving into the southwest to bring further heavier rain. Blustery winds, gales around exposed western coasts. Highs 12 to 16C.

Monday 4/10/21
Generally unsettled and fairly cool. Forecast detail is uncertain, but expect brisk winds, outbreaks of rain or showers for many. Locally escaping drier at times with some sunshine. Highs 11 to 15C.
