A wet week, then improving at the weekend and next week, becoming warmer too
It is going to be a very wet week ahead for many as low pressure mixes warm, Mediterranean air with cold, polar air. Flooding is likely. By the end of the week and into the weekend the weather turns drier, although still with showers. Indications are that the weather then turns drier and warmer into next week, although the arrival of the drier weather may be staggered.

Low pressure is expected to be centred over England on Thursday. More rain is expected over much of eastern and southern Scotland, northern England, the Midlands, northern and western England as well as Wales. Heavy showers in eastern areas. Note that confidence in the detail of where the rain will be is low. Drier in western Scotland and Ireland with some sunny spells here. Breezy to the west. Highs at 10 in northern Scotland and the wet areas of England and Wales, 15C where the sun comes out.
Low pressure to the west of Ireland on Friday. It should be a drier day with some sunny spells although there will be showers in northern and western areas, scattered showers elsewhere. Highs at 20C in southeastern areas 16C in the west.
Low pressure northwest of Scotland on Saturday. This allows for sunny spells and showers, although the showers turning heavy and thundery. Temperatures at 15 to 18C.
A weak ridge of high pressure may build through the UK on Sunday. Fronts and low pressure affecting western Ireland and western Scotland bringing cloud and spells of drizzle or patchy rain here. Temperatures at 16 to 21C.
The ridge of high pressure persists in eastern and southern areas on Monday. This brings drier weather here. More western parts are likely to have cloud and rain with lower pressure close by. Note there is much uncertainty in how far east the rain extends. Temperatures at 15 to 21C.
Higher pressure is expected to be in control of conditions on Tuesday. This should give sunny spells and dry weather. Warmer too at 19 to 24C.
