Thundery showers next week

Issued: 0900 Wednesday 9th September 2020
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Very warm at the weekend but then thundery showers breaking out next week

Some rain in northern parts of the Uk over the next few days, mostly dry in the south. Temperatures vary widely but will become hot through Sunday and Monday. This heat then triggers showers, some of them heavy and thundery with conditions generally showery into the middle of next week. For the weather for the next few days click here

Saturday 12/9/20
A fair day over much of England and Wales as well as southern Ireland. Low pressure close to northern Scotland bringing winds here with some heavy showers in the north and west. Eastern and southern areas of Scotland should be brighter with sunny spells. Increasing cloud and periods of rain moving into western and northern Ireland. Staying fair in England and Wales, best sunshine in the east. Highs at 21C in southeastern England, 14 to 17C for most other areas.

Sunday 13/9/20
An area of low pressure passing through Scotland on Sunday. This brings the risk of some heavier periods of rain here, together with stronger winds. Wednesday 16/9/20
Further showers on Wednesday as lower pressure drifts eastwards, although these are probably going to be be scattered. Tending to become drier from the west as a ridge of high pressure builds. Highs at a cooler 14 to 21C.
