Drier weather developing
Some frontal systems will drift in from the west early in the week bringing rain at times to western Britain and Ireland. These systems will tend to weaken with very little rain reaching east and southeastern areas. High pressure building from the south is likely to bring a better spell of weather to start September.

Wednesday 28/8/24 A slow-moving front over western England and Wales brings cloudy skies and rain, risk of some heavier rain in southwest England. A little rain moving into central England later in the day. Eastern England stays dry with sunshine. The far west may brighten up later. Showery rain for western Scotland and Ireland. Drier eastern Scotland. South to southwesterly breezes, lighter winds for southern regions. Warm and humid, highs 25 to 27C southeast, 23C Midlands, 17 to 20C north and west.
Thursday 29/8/24 Low pressure north of Scotland, building pressure toward the southwest. Showery periods of rain for Wales and western England. Some more frequent rain for western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Fewer showers reaching the Midlands, often dry to the south and east of England, variable cloud and sunny spells. Light to moderate westerly breezes. Highs 25C in the southeast, 22C Midlands, 16 to 19C north and west.
Friday 30/8/24 A ridge of high pressure building through the British Isles. Some showers remain in Scotland and Ireland. Central and southeastern areas should become drier with some sunny spells, the best in the south. Highs 22 to 25C Midlands, south and east, 17 to 20C north and west.
Saturday 31/8/24 An area of higher pressure extends over south of the country. A weak front bringing some low cloud and drizzle to southern and western coasts of Ireland and southwest England. Further east over England and Scotland dry with spells of sunshine developing. Highs 17 to 24C.
Sunday 1/9/24 High pressure stays over the south. This brings a fair day to much of central, east and southern England and east Wales. A tendency for more cloud and some drizzle affecting western coasts and hills. Southwesterly breezes in the north. Highs at 17 to 25C.
Monday 2/9/24 High pressure expands northwards bringing fair weather to most places. Some rain in northwest Scotland as fronts stay nearby here with southwesterly breezes. Feeling warm in sunny spells for many places, highs 21 to 26C.
