A mixed weekend, risk local thundery rain

A generally warm pattern over the week ahead. This weekend brings a risk of locally torrential rain, but also a good deal of dry and bright weather. Next week is likely to see occasional rain in the west & north, but the south & east should be largely dry with plenty of sunshine.

Sunday 28/08/16
Detail is uncertain as the pressure pattern remains slack across the British Isles. Risk slow-moving areas of rain, possibly heavy and thundery. Rather hazy, and quite murky during or after rain. However, many places may well escape dry all day, with variable cloud and occasional sunshine. Light winds. Temperatures ranging from 18 to 22C in the north, 23 to 25C in the south.

Monday 29/08/16
A ridge of high pressure builds from the south-west. Risk of scattered showers, mainly in the west early morning, but becoming confined to eastern regions of Scotland & England in the afternoon. Occasional sunshine breaking through, perhaps becoming widely sunny around southern coasts. High cloud thickening across Scotland and Ireland. Light winds, coastal sea breezes. Highs 18 to 25C.

Tuesday 30/08/16
High pressure centred south-east of Britain brings a dry and warm day to most areas. Plenty of sunshine, hazy in the west. Fronts over the Atlantic may see rain encroach toward Ireland & western Scotland. Mist patches may drift toward coasts in the south-west. A freshening southerly breeze in the west. Light winds and sea breezes elsewhere. Highs 18 to 21C north & west, 23 to 26C south & east.

Wednesday 31/08/16
Fronts are expected to push east across northern Britain, bringing rain at times to Scotland, Ireland & northern England, although may amount to very little to the east of high ground. Cloudy for Wales & the Midlands, perhaps a little drizzly rain. Largely dry in the south & south-east, some sunshine. Risk murky in the south-west. Highs 16 to 19C in north-west, 22 to 26C elsewhere, warmest south-east.

Thursday 01/09/16
Detail of timing uncertain. Pressure may rebuild from the south-west, bringing a dry and bright day to much of Britain. Risk early cloud and patchy rain in the north, but should clear. Later rain and freshening winds may return from the Atlantic toward Ireland. Remaining warm, highs 19 to 25C.

Friday 02/09/16
Risk of rain and a strong breeze affecting western regions of Britain and Ireland. Central & south-eastern areas may remain dry and warm. Highs ranging from 17 to 25C.
