Unsettled, wet and windy, milder at times, but cooler days in Scotland

An unsettled week with low pressure dominating. There will be unsettled conditions and periods of rain as low pressure passes through. Temperatures will be varying with occasional spells of colder weather in Scotland, but generally milder to the south. It will be very windy at times too.

Monday 13/01/20
A deep area of low pressure will be west of Scotland sending fronts across the UK and Ireland that take high winds and outbreaks of rain east on Monday. The rain could be heavy in the west, probably reaching eastern parts of England and Scotland later in the day. Winds will be gale force or stronger to the west. Brighter conditions follow for Ireland but showers will persist to the west. High temperatures at 5 to 10C.


Tuesday 14/01/20
Low pressure to the north of Scotland brings a brighter, breezy day with frequent showers to the west, some of them heavy, some of them wintry. An area of low pressure may develop to the southwest bringing heavy rain and high winds to southeast Ireland, Wales and much of England. Highs at 3 to 5C for Ireland, Scotland, Northern Ireland, north Wales and northern England, 10 to 12C for south Wales and central and southern England.


Wednesday 15/01/20
A brighter day as a ridge of high pressure builds and low pressure moves east. Western areas will still see frequent showers, some of which will fall as snow over higher ground, with eastern areas being drier and brighter. Staying breezy. Chilly with high temperatures at 3 to 8C.
 


Thursday 16/01/20
A front sweeps quickly across the UK taking outbreaks of heavy rain with it. Brighter conditions follow behind this and for Ireland though western areas will still see scattered showers. Highs at 4 to 7C for Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and the north of England, 9 to 13C for the rest of England and Wales.


Friday 17/01/20
An area of low pressure may clear to the east overnight bringing a westerly flow to the British Isles. A drier, brighter day to the east once again with showers to the west. High temperatures ranging from 3 to 7C.

Saturday 18/01/20
Low pressure moves off to the southeast while higher pressure builds from the northwest. Drier and brighter conditions spread from the northwest across the country. Showers fade through the day. Chilly with highs of 2 to 7C.
