Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Wind, rain and showers through the weekend, becoming drier and brighter next week

Windy and unsettled weather conditions through this weekend. Showers for Saturday and Sunday and continuing into the start of next week. Indications are that conditions improve next week as pressure starts to build from mid-week. Showers and outbreaks of rain perhaps continuing for northern and western areas but generally becoming drier and warmer with frequent spells of sunshine further south and east.

Tuesday 20/08/19
Higher pressure builds over England and Wales on Tuesday while low pressure stays to the northwest. Further showers and outbreaks of rain for northern and western parts of Ireland and Scotland with isolated showers spreading into eastern parts of Scotland and the north of England. Much of England, Wales and southeastern parts of Ireland should stay mostly dry with plenty of sunshine. Highs at 15 to 20C.

Wednesday 21/08/19
Low pressure moves over northern areas once more on Wednesday bringing outbreaks of rain and showers to Ireland, Scotland and northern parts of England. Some very heavy rain is possible for western parts of Scotland. Staying dry and brighter over Wales and central and southern parts of England. Breezy with highs at 14 to 21C.

Thursday 22/08/19
Lower pressure stays to the northwest while higher pressure is to the southeast. Blustery showers affecting Northern Ireland, Scotland and western Ireland. Isolated showers for northern England and northern and western parts of Wales. Dry and brighter for many further south and east. Breezy again with highs of 15 to 22C.

Friday 23/08/19
Higher pressure to the east and lower pressure to the west means Friday looks to continue much the same as Thursday with a few blustery showers for northern and western areas. Drier and brighter to the south and east. High temperatures at 17 to 24C.

Saturday 24/08/19
Higher pressure to the east brings a dry and mostly bright day to much of the country. Cloud builds further west where it may thicken at times to bring a few showers for the far west of Ireland. High temperatures at 18 to 25C.

Sunday 25/08/19
Pressure stays higher on Sunday for most though a small area of low pressure may bring thundery showers to southwestern parts of the UK and across Ireland. Plenty of sunshine elsewhere with some broken high cloud. Highs at 19 to 25C.
