Wet and windy until the weekend, gradually becoming drier and milder next week

Unsettled weather continues into the weekend. Low pressure areas will be bringing cloud and periods of rain, some of them heavy. A risk of some snow over the high ground of Scotland and northern England too. Turning colder for Sunday, but then a general improvement in the weather next week. It is likely to become warmer as the week progresses with the best sunshine in the east.

Saturday 16/3/19
A shallow but vigorous are of low pressure passes north through England, Wales and into southern Scotland on Saturday. This brings heavy periods of rain with it as well as gale force winds in much of England and Wales. The risk of snow over northern hills. Brighter in central and northjern Scotland but with some heavy showers. Brighter weather arriving in western Ireland, some showers here too. Highs at 11C in southern England, 4 to 7C in Ireland and Scotland.


Sunday 17/3/19
A brighter day for Sunday as the wind turns to the northwest bringing sunny spells and heavy showers. Most showers will be in northern and western parts of the country, these wintry over the hills. Highs at 6 to 8C.

 
 
 


Monday 18/3/19
A ridge of higher pressure building on Monday. This brings dry and bright weather for all. Cloud increasing in western Ireland later bringing some drizzle here. Highs at 8 to 11C.

 
 
 


Tuesday 19/3/19
Higher pressure bringing a fair day for many on Tuesday across the southern half of the UK and Ireland. Cloudier skies in northern areas with cloud and outbreaks of rain, most of this in western and northern Scotland as well as northern parts of Ireland. Highs at 9 to 13C.


Wednesday 20/3/19
The ridge of high pressure remains over the UK on Wednesday. This brings milder and drier weather with sunny spells, although lower cloud and drizzle is a risk on western coasts and hills. The chance of more persistent periods of rain in western Scotland, drizzle in northern and western Ireland. Highs at 10 to 15C.

Thursday 21/3/19
High pressure builds further on Thursday. A mild day for many with sunny spells. Always the risk of some low cloud over western coasts and hills, especially in western Scotland and western Ireland where there could be drizzle. Highs at 11 to 17C.
