Waves of storms around New Year's

Several waves of storms will pass around New Year's bringing heavy rain to most places, snow possibly reaching central England, though details uncertain. A cold, northerly breeze will follow.

A windy and overcast day for most. Heavy morning rain over Scotland, northern Ireland, northern England. Rain becoming less constant as the day goes on, though moderate showers are still likely in the west. Snow likely in the Highlands. Central England and Wales may see more persistent rains later. Highs of 9 to 10C most places, northern Scotland staying near 1C.

Brace for stormy conditions as a deepening area of low pressure moves in from the hwest. Gales and severe gales are expected accompanied by heavy rain spreading east. Snow is possible north. High of 5C in the north and 11C in the south.



 
 
 

Thursday 02/01/2025
A blustery day with frequent, heavy wintery showers in the north. The east coast may also see a period of rain, some sleet possible. Gales possible in the morning though winds will ease in the west in the afternoon. Highs of 2C in the north 8C south.


 

Friday 03/01/2025
Expect widespread frost in the north in the morning. Mostly sunny conditions across the country for much of the way. Showers will organize into longer rainy spells in the north, likely with sleet inland. Some rains will reach into northern England and Ireland. Temperatures will feel colder, with highs of 2C in the north and 4C south.

Showers will persist in the north, possibly wintry down to low levels. Further south, it will be mostly dry with sun in and out, isolated showers along east and west coasts. A cold day overall, with afternoon temperatures reaching 1C in the north and 3C south.

Sunday 05/01/2025
Northerly winds continue to push wintery showers onto Scotland's north coast. Mostly dry with lots of sun in the morning. A band of light rain sweeps southward and will affect most places, falling as snow on higher terrain. Highs of 2C north, 5C south.
