A more unsettled and cooler start to the week, then showery later

An unsettled start to next week as low pressure takes control. This brings cloud and rain, some of it heavy at times. Most of the rain in the west and south. The rain then clearing to heavy showers. By the end of the week the showers may ease and conditions become more fair. Chillier for some early in the week, then turning milder.

Tuesday 14/5/24
Low pressure stays over the southwest of the British Isles on Wednesday. Another unsettled day with a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers heaviest and thundery in the southwest. More persistent affecting Scotland and eastern England, slowly clearing north and east although remaining in Scotland. The heavy showers in the southwest may merge to longer spells of rain as they push into Wales and the Midlands. heavy showers in Ireland. Highs at 12C in Scotland, 16C in southern England.


Wednesday 15/5/24
Low pressure over Ireland on Wednesday. A mix of sunny spells and showers. The showers could be heavy and thundery at times. More persistent rain could again affect eastern Scotland. The morning starts bright over central and northern areas of the country before the heavy showers then develop during the day. Eastern areas will be drier and brighter. Highs at 15 to 17C but to 20C in western Scotland.


Thursday 16/5/24
Low pressure remains through Thursday. A bright morning with sunny spells. Heavy showers developing during the day with a risk of thunderstorms. Drier in Scotland. Showers continuing through the day in western areas. Highs at 15 to 19C but possibly just 12C on eastern coasts.


 


Friday 17/5/24
Low pressure is in control again through Friday. A day of sunny spells and heavy showers. The showers could be torrential and thundery in the south. Scotland may see fewer showers. Highs at 15 to 21C.



 
 
 


Saturday 18/5/24
Low pressure drifts south on Saturday. Another day of sunshine and showers, this time most of the showers in southern and eastern areas. Drier and brighter north and west. Highs at 16 to 21C.

Sunday 19/5/24
A ridge of higher pressure may build through southern and western areas on Sunday. This brings a bright, dry day. Some low cloud and drizzle affecting western Scotland and western Ireland. Drier in the east too with sunny spells. A warm day at 17 to 23C.
