After the heat in the east and south this week, thundery rain at the weekend then cooler with sunny spells and showers next week
After a brief spell of hot weather in eastern and southern areas of the country later this week, things will be turning cooler over the weekend. Turning brighter with sunny spells and some showers next week. The showers could be turning more persistent at times, especially in the middle to later stages of the week.

A front lying west to east through England, Wales and southern Ireland. This brings cloud and some thundery outbreaks of rain here. It is currently unclear where most of the rain will be, and so there is still much uncertainty. It is likely that the rain is light at first and then becomes steadier through the day. Perhaps staying drier in the far south. Breezy in southern areas as well as being very warm. Cooler for Scotland and the north of Ireland as well as northern England. Some sunny spells here but also showers. A risk of some thundery rain in northern England. Highs at 14 to 16C for most, but to a muggy 28C in the far south.
A thundery area of low pressure over northern France on Sunday. There will be cloud and rain, some of it heavy and thundery in central and southern England and south Wales with mist and fog, especially over hills. Brighter for northern England, north wales, Ireland and Scotland, cooler here too. Highs at 18C in southeast England, more widely 12 to 14C but to 18C in southern and eastern Scotland as well as southern Ireland.
A ridge of high pressure brings a dry day over England and Wales with sunny spells, the best in the east and south. Scattered showers along with more cloud in the north and west of Scotland. Highs at 23C in southern England, 15C in western Scotland. Tuesday 21/6/22
A more showery day om Tuesday with low pressure in the North Sea. There could be some heavy showers, mostly in northern and western areas. Lighter and more scattered showers in the east and south. Highs at 23C in the south, 15 to 19C for most other areas.
Low pressure stays to the east with high pressure to the west on Wednesday. Showers, some of them heavy and prolonged, most in the north and east where they could be thundery. Highs at 15 to 22C.
Fronts pushing into Scotland on Sunday bringing cloud and rain here. Further rain may affect Ireland. Eng;and and Wales should be dry and bright, although some cloud and rain arriving in northern England. Highs at 14 to 18C.
