Stormy through New Year then turning cold with widespread frost and some snow showers
New Yea's brings stormy weather and some heavy rain, but also some snow in Scotland and northern England. Turning colder soon after the New Year with widespread severe frosts developing. Good spells of sunshine as Arctic conditions set in bringing some snow showers around coasts.

New Year's Day 1/1/25 A deep area of low pressure crossing west to east through Wednesday. This brings widespread severe gales and a risk of gusts of wind of over 70mph which is enough to cause some damage to trees and buildings. Heavy periods of rain, followed by heavy showers. In Scotland there will be snow, and this is going to be heavy. The snow could extend into northern England by evening before slowly spreading south. Blizzards affect much of central, southern and eastern Scotland with significant snow falls. Highs at 0 to 2C in Scotland, 12C in southern England.
Thursday 2/1/25 High pressure builds west of Ireland on Thursday. A north to northwest flow affects most areas. Cold with good spells of sunshine, a few snow showers around coasts. A chance of some rain in the far southwest. Highs at 2 to 6C.
Friday 3/1/25 Low pressure may may east through the Channel on Friday. This could bring an area of rain, sleet and snow in the far south of England, most snow on hills. Generally cold and bright with good spells of sunshine. A front brings more persistent snow showers ot northern Scotland. Tops at 2 to 5C.
Saturday 4/1/25 A cold flow again through Saturday. Frequent snow showers may affect Ireland as well as northern and western Scotland. Generally dry elsewhere with plenty of sunshine. Highs at 1 to 3C.
Sunday 5/1/25 Another cold day. Snow showers over the far north of Scotland. Dry and generally bright with good spells of sunshine. There may be some morning mist and fog patches although these clear quickly. Highs at 0 to 2C but 5C in the far southwest.
Monday 6/1/25 Staying cold again through Monday. A widespread and severe frost. Staying dry though for most of the day. Sunny spells. Some snow showers north and east. Highs at 2 to 6C.
