Cold with a risk of sleet and snow, some of it heavy, widespread frosts too

A cold week ahead. Periods of rain and snow, although much uncertainty as to how far north and east snow extends, although there is potential for snow to settle in many areas. Tending to remain cold next week with a risk of overnight frosts.

Saturday 4/1/25
Cold again on Saturday. Increasing cloud across England, Wales and Ireland through Saturday as low pressure develops southwest of Ireland. Brighter in Scotland with sunny spells, best in the east of Scotland. Scatter showers affecting western and northern areas of Scotland. A few spots of rain over northwest England. Generally dry elsewhere. Highs at a cold 1 to 4C.


Sunday 5/1/25
Low pressure south of Ireland on Sunday. This brings fronts to the southern areas. There is much uncertainty as to how far rain and snow extend, although at the present time an area of snow could occur over southern Ireland, Wales, the Midlands and east Anglia, extending to northern England during the day. Colder Scotland, some snow showers in northern and western Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. Highs at 1 to 4C.


Monday 6/1/25
Low pressure over southern areas on Monday. There may be some snow through northern England, Wales and parts of the Midlands. Milder in the south and southeast where it will be misty and murky. More snow in southern Scotland. Cold scotland and Ireland, some snow showers here. Highs at 1 to 3C for most but 12C in the far south.


 


Tuesday 7/1/25
Low pressure drifts to the east of the British Isles on Tuesday. A cold northerly wind bringing more sunny spells and wintry showers, many falling as snow. The risk of more persistent sleet and snow in East Anglia and the far southeast. Highs at 1 to 3C.


 


Wednesday 8/1/25
Low pressure remains east. There is some uncertainty in the forecast, although further wintry showers north and east. Perhaps drier and brighter to the south. Highs at 0 to 2C.

Monday 6/1/25
Staying cold again through Monday. A widespread and severe frost. Staying dry though for most of the day. Sunny spells. Some snow showers north and east. Highs at 1 to 4C.
