Staying cool and mostly dry with overnight frosts, then some snow showers next week

Cooler through the coming week although a major freeze is not expected. There will be plenty of dry weather around with overnight frosts. A risk of more persistent sleet, turning to snow on hills in Scotland on Saturday and then the threat of some snow showers for most areas early next week as temperatures fall.

Thursday 11/1/24
High pressure is over the west of Scotland on Thursday. Another chilly day with a fair amount of cloud in eastern and southern areas. This breaks to leave some bright or sunny spells, the best in the west. Breezy in the south. Highs at 4 to 7C.



 
 
 

Friday 12/1/24
High pressure is over the south of the British Isles on Friday. This brings plenty of dry weather. However, morning fog may be widespread in Wales and southwest England and could be slow to clear. Increasing cloud in northwest Scotland with some sleet and hill snow here later. Highs at 4 to 7C.


 

Saturday 13/1/24
A brisk northwest flow affecting all areas on Saturday. A bright day with good spells of sunshine for most. Some cloud in southern Ireland, Wales and the Midlands as well as East Anglia, but this breaking. One or two showers in this cloud. Highs at 3C in northern Scotland, 7C in southern England.


 

Sunday 14/1/24
Colder on Sunday with the north to northwest flow persisting. Some snow showers around the coasts of Scotland, especially the north. Dry for most other areas with sunshine. Highs at 2C in northern Scotland, 4C in southern England.

Monday 15/1/24
More persistent sleet and snow may affect the far north of Scotland on Monday. Chilly for other areas but bright. Dry overall. Highs at 2 to 5C.

Tuesday 16/1/24
A risk of a band of sleet and snow affecting northern England and Northern Ireland on Tuesday. Snow showers for Scotland. Cold for the rest of England, Wales and Ireland with a scattering of sleety showers. Highs at 1C in northern Scotland, 6C in southern England.
